Applying for residence permit renewal by studying for citizens of non-EU countries.
Student’s residence permit renewal. Presence of the applicant is required. A translator may be presented.
1) Applicant’s form
Žiadosť o obnovenie prechodného pobytu – application for a residence permit.
The form is generated automatically as you fill it out on the police website.
It can also be filled out manually. For example, if any mistakes appear. Or download žiadosť o obnovenie prechodného pobytu on our website.
The form must be completed in Slovak language.
2) Confirmation of residence in Slovakia
Potvrdenie ubytovacieho zariadenia – place of residence confirmation.
Handed out when living in dormitories, hostels, hotels, etc.
The document must be completed in Slovak or Czech and certified with the seal of the institution.

Čestné vyhlásenie vlastníka nehnuteľnosti – declaration from the property owner.

The document must be completed in Slovak or Czech and certified by a Slovak or Czech notary, or personally signed at the foreign police department once submitting documents.

Nájomná zmluva – rental agreement.
It’s necessary to prepare a separate copy or a notarized copy of the agreement for submission to the police.

or
Čestné vyhlásenie o vlastníctve nehnuteľnosti – declaration of real estate ownership.
Submitted if a foreigner owns his own real estate.

Also important to note that proof of residence must be issued for a period of at least 6 months.
Important!
Proof of residence may not be provided if the applicant is a university student.
3) Original passport
Cestovný pas – international passport.
The passport must be valid at the time of documents submission.
Police officer will make a copy of the passport and return it to the applicant.
4) Studying confirmation
Potvrdenie školy o prijatí na štúdium or Potvrdenie o štúdiu – document confirming the student’s studying.
Important!
Distance learning isn’t enough to obtain/renew a residence permit.
Partial admission (Rozhodnutie o podmienečnom prijatí na vysokoškolské štúdium) of a student isn’t enough to obtain residence permit in Slovakia. Accordingly, for the police, confirmation of a student’s acceptance for study will be «Rozhodnutie o prijatí na vysokoškolské štúdium».
Important to note:
Minor student’s legal representative is required to act on juvenile’s residence permit issues.
A minor over 15 years of age can work on issues of residence permit for the purposes of study by himself independently. The application for a residence permit must be signed by a legal representative with notarization.
