General rules and list of documents required for replacing national driving licenses from countries outside the EEA with Slovak ones (vodičský preukaz).
In order to replace a driver’s license a temporary residence permit/permanent residence permit will be needed. You can replace a driver’s license in an specified period of time which you can find in the traffic law: period of 60 days from the expiration of 185 days after receiving allowance for living in Slovakia.
To replace the license, you will need:
1) Applicant’s form
The form is filled out at the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of residence, usually by the officer receiving such an application.
2) Original driver’s license
It’s necessary to make a notarized copy of your ID at a Slovak notary. Next, you need to make a court translation of this document into Slovak.
3) Original residence permit/permanent residence card
The document must be valid at the time of application.
4) Driver’s license validity confirmation
It’s important to note that the traffic law doesn’t have a specific expire date for reviewing this document! However, in practice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs may deny a document 90 days old.
You must have with you the original certificate with an original stamp and signature of an authorized person. Next, you need to make a court translation of this document into Slovak.

When submitting application, you will be required to pay an administrative fee (kolok – can be paid online). 10 euros for standard production within 30 days. With accelerated production in 2 days the price is 40 euros (prices are indicated as of 01.04.2024).
